On August 10, 2024, the Japan premiere red carpet event for the anime “Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World” 3rd season was held at Tokyo’s Kabuki-cho Cinema City Square. The event featured a star-studded lineup, including Kobayashi Yusuke, Takahashi Rie, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Amasaki Kohei, Yamane Kiyomi, and Anzai Chika.
The cast members, along with Emilia, Rem, and Ram cosplayers, took to the stage, and Takahashi, who plays Emilia, exclaimed, “Kawaii!” (cute!) with great enthusiasm. Under the clear blue sky, Okamoto, who plays Garfiel, joked, “It’s hot, isn’t it? Let’s do our best!” to the Rem cosplayers.
On the red carpet, the cast members interacted with fans, waving and smiling, and occasionally stopping to chat with them. When asked about her first impressions of walking the red carpet, Takahashi screamed, “It feels amazing!!” and basked in the applause. Okamoto teased, “Is everyone excited?!” and felt the energy of the fans. Later, when each cast member announced their favorite character, Kobayashi, who plays Subaru, loudly declared Emilia’s name, and Takahashi responded with, “It’s Subaru, who became a knight for me!” The audience erupted in cheers and applause.
The cast members then took the stage again, each delivering their lines and greetings. Okamoto revealed a line from the 3rd season, “You can’t escape from Reinhard,” and Yamane, who joins the series in the 3rd season, debuted her character Lilia’s lines. Anzai, who plays Sirius, joked, “It’s very easy, so please try it out,” and then delivered her lines, causing laughter among the audience.
The 1st episode of the 3rd season will be a 90-minute extended version, a first for the series. Kobayashi revealed that the director had always wanted to create a 90-minute episode, and “everyone will understand when they watch it. The faces of the audience after watching it will be interesting.” Amasaki, who plays Otto, advised, “It’s better to eat popcorn early,” and Takahashi added, “It’s better to eat it around 60 minutes in,” hinting at the intense second half of the episode.
When asked about their first impressions of joining the series, Yamane confessed that she was overwhelmed by the number of songs Lilia has to sing and had to practice singing even in the bath. The other cast members praised her efforts, and she expressed her gratitude. Anzai, who also joins the series in the 3rd season, revealed that she watched all the previous episodes to prepare and was intimidated by the “yabai” (cool) atmosphere of the series.
The event also featured a Q&A session, where the cast members were asked, “What would you do if you could redo something?” Amasaki joked that he would have become a musician, and the other cast members enthusiastically responded, “You should do it!” and “We want to see it!” The conversation ended with Amasaki saying, “Please consider it. I’ll do my best.”
Finally, Kobayashi concluded the Q&A session by saying, “There’s no such thing as a mistake. Because I’m playing Subaru, I can’t die easily, and that’s why I’m alive now.” The audience applauded loudly, and the event came to a close.
In their final greetings, Okamoto introduced the 1st episode of the 3rd season, comparing it to a rollercoaster ride. He recalled the audience’s reaction at an American event, where they initially cheered but eventually became silent, and expressed his hope that the Japanese audience would enjoy it as well. Takahashi exclaimed, “This is the first time we’ve had such a grand event at the beginning of the season. We’ve always been excited, but this time, it’s going to be even more amazing!”
