Mononoke Wins Bronze Audience Award at Fantasia International Film Festival

The animated film “Mononoke Movie: Karakasa” directed by Kenji Nakamura has won the Bronze Audience Award in the Feature Animation category at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival held in Montreal, Canada.

The Feature Animation category Audience Award is determined by a popular vote among festival attendees. The film’s screening at the festival was sold out, and it also won the Satoshi Kon Award for Best Animated Feature Film, achieving a double win.

“Mononoke Movie: Karakasa” is currently in theaters in Japan. The film is set in the women’s quarters of the imperial palace, where beautiful and talented women from all over the country have gathered to give birth to the emperor’s successor. The story follows a medicine seller who confronts the Mononoke. The voice cast includes Hiroshi Kamiya as the medicine seller.

A sequel, “Mononoke: Chapter 2 – Hinezumi”, is scheduled for release on March 14, 2025.
