Uzumaki Anime’s New Trailer Released and Date Announced

The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s Uzumaki horror manga is finally set to debut on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block on September 28 at 12:30 a.m. EDT. The four-episode miniseries, directed by Hiroshi Nagahama, will also be available to stream on the Max streaming service.

New Trailer:

The story of Uzumaki takes place in the seemingly quaint town of Kurouzu-cho, which is gripped by a supernatural curse involving spirals. The spirals are a natural force that warp both physical objects and the lives of the townspeople. The anime follows high school students Kirie Goshima and Shuichi Saito as they navigate this spiral-infested world, trying to uncover the source of the curse and fight for their survival.

Kirie, a high school student, finds her normal life upended as she begins to experience the strange effects of the spiral curse on her town and loved ones. Her boyfriend, Shuichi, is highly sensitive to the spirals’ malevolence. His awareness and fear of the curse motivate him to protect Kirie and find a way out of the nightmare engulfing Kurouzu-cho. Azami stands out as one of the more mysterious figures, with her unique connection to the spirals.

The anime promises to be a faithful adaptation of the manga, featuring a haunting soundtrack by Hereditary composer Colin Stetson that creates an atmospheric tone. The preview hints at the psychological horror and disturbing transformations that await, which promises a thrilling ride into the depths of madness and obsession.

After being delayed three times since its announcement in 2019, fans of Junji Ito’s work can finally look forward to experiencing the horror of Uzumaki on September 28.
