The latest installment in the My Hero Academia film series, My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: Your Next, has taken the box office by storm since its release on August 2, 2024. To commemorate this achievement, the film’s producers have announced a special gift for moviegoers: a mini-illustrated reproduction of an original illustration by the original author, Kohei Horikoshi!
My Hero Academia, also known as “Hiroaka,” is a popular anime based on the hero action manga by Kohei Horikoshi, which has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since July 2014. With 41 volumes of comics published to date, the series has achieved a total circulation of over 100 million copies. The seventh season of the TV anime series began airing in May 2024.
The film series has been a huge hit since the release of the first film, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, in August 2018, followed by My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising in December 2019, and My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission in August 2021.
The latest film has attracted an impressive 600,000 viewers and grossed over 890 million yen in the first three days since its release, making it the best start in the series’ history. As of August 12, the film has attracted 1.22 million viewers and grossed over 1.77 billion yen.
To celebrate this huge success, the second round of gifts will be distributed to attendees! From August 17th, a reproduction of a miniature illustration by Kohei Horikoshi will be distributed at theaters nationwide. This exclusive gift features four characters:
- Izuku Midoriya (Deku)
- Katsuki Bakugou
- Shoto Todoroki
- Julio, an original character from the film
The illustration showcases the characters in butler garb with their hair neatly parted in a 7:3 split, offering a rare and unique visual treat. This limited edition item is only available to the first 500,000 people nationwide and can only be obtained at the cinema, so don’t miss out!
In addition to the exclusive gift, a non-credit version of the opening video featuring the film’s opening theme song “Homunculus” by artist Vaundy has been released on the TOHO animation channel.
The opening scene begins with Deku and Julio’s first meeting, followed by the rest of Class A, including Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki, riding on the “Homunculus.” The video also features scenes that evoke Deku’s story so far, as well as the appearance of pro heroes one after another, which is sure to get you excited.
